Prior to the championship event, IL caught the adidas All-Tournament Game, which ended in awesome summer camp style as Carolina's Joey Dishaw scored the game-winning goal on a Braveheart in overtime to give the Black team a 9-8 victory.
Central Pennsylvania's Tyler Aunon (Paul VI) was a star of the game, scoring yhree goals in total. One of the larger players on the field at 6-2, 180 lbs., Aunon used his size advantage and rocket shot to get the Gold's offense rumbling throughout the game and help lead a comeback after Team Black was up 4-1 early in the first half. He also was effective at the F/O x, using both size and a bit of pinch n' pop skill to win draws.
Other players who contributed for the Gold team included Team Tennessee's Ben Charpentier (Montgomery Bell Academy, TN) with two goals, working the crease along with the rest of the unit. Central Pennsylvania's Dan Wertz (Manheim Township, Pa.) and Rochester's Derek DeJoe (Fairport) also contributed with goals on the offense.
Team Black's offense was evenly spread throughout the game, with Ohio's Dan Hume (Springboro, OH) leading the team with two goals. Team Texas' Travis Lipscomb (Hillcrest), Team Tennessee's Crawford Cox (Mtn. Brook) and New Jersey's Ryan Coaklye (Immaculate, NJ) also contributed on the unit. Mike Messina (St. Aquinas Int., Roch.) also scored a great goal in the fourth quarter off a face-off to tie the contest for the overtime.
Team Black goalie MIke Wiatrak (West Essex, NJ) stood out in the second half with some nice stops, before allowing the comeback.
